THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR A VERY WELL-ATTENDED GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING!
Sisters & Brothers,
What a wonderful turn out! Thank you for making this GMM such a huge success and for helping us, your Executive, run your Local. A big thanks and a gift of appreciation for his hard work and dedication to the Union movement went to Andrew Tersigni (Past President). A big thanks to Jaime Brenes Reyes who, as Acting President and his first time chairing a GMM did a wonderful job; and of course to the rest of the Executive for their reports and their hard work on behalf of all our 1,300 members.
A very special thanks goes out to Charlotte McCallum, a dedicated Unit 2 member who once again opted to give of her time and energy towards running the upcoming elections at the next AGM - Thank you Charlotte. Charlotte also, at this meeting, declared nominations officially open for all Exec positions.
We would also like to thank Len McCarthy (Unit 2) for volunteering and becoming the newly-elected Guelph/Humber Rep. - WELCOME ABOARD!
At this meeting, the following motion was also brought to the floor, debated, voted on, and carried:
- Motion to renew the engagement of the bookkeeper at an average of 5 hours per month till the next AGM on March 29, 2012 and for the bookkeeper to present (on that date) a detailed update of the new system that has now been put in place.
We thank you one and all for giving of your time and helping to make this Third General Membership Meeting of the Academic Year a very, very successful one.
And last but not least, Congratulations to the winners! - Daniel Wettlaufer (CCJP) for correctly filling out the “GOOD OF THE UNION CROSSWORD #14” and winning the $100 prize; and to Trish Altass (SOAN), Ian Morgan (CHEM), and Ahmed Mahmood (SOE) for winning the 5, 3, and 2 Bob’s Dogs Tickets respectively.
Once again, thank you for your attendance, enthusiasm, and support.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENDANCE AT THE SPRING GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING!
Thanks to Andrew Tersigni (President) for doing such a good job at chairing what turned out to be a very informative meeting with a lot of lively and respectful debates.
Thanks are also due to all of the members who made the meeting one of the most energetic and high-spirited we have had in years – (There were 16 Departments represented at this GMM!). And thanks to the rest of the Executive for all their hard work, but especially, and in no particular order, to Alexander Legwegoh (Human Rights & Equity), Reza-Sepehr Esfahani (Health & Safety), Mope Oreoluwa Ogunbowale (Women’s Council Chair), and Nino Scavello (Unit 1 Chief Steward & Interim Finance Officer) for very successfully delivering their first-ever report at a GMM. Thank you.
At this meeting, the Executive gave a report on the actions they have taken based on the recommendations of the Trustees’ Report as sent to CUPE National.
The following motions were also brought to the floor, debated and voted on:
- Executive motion to “hire a bookkeeper at an average of 5 hours per week till September 22, 2011 when the issue will be reviewed (at the next GMM)” - Seconded by Charlotte McCallum (GEOG).
- Motion to “increase Honoraria from $150 per month to $300 per month for the Executive and from $60 to $150 per month for Members-at-Large retroactive to September 1, 2010″ – Moved by Kabir Chowdhury (APS) and Seconded by Shannon Carter (SOFAM)
- Motion to “have an external audit for the 2010-2011 fiscal year” – Moved by Shannon Carter (SOFAM) and Seconded by Angus Ross (MCB).
All motions carried.

STRIKE-MANDATE REFERENDUM AUTHORIZED AT GMM!
Thank you sisters and brothers for a well-attended General Membership Meeting!
Congratulations to Charlotte McCallum (GEOG) for being elected as the Chief Electoral Officer; to Zachary Arthur (PHYS) who was elected to the position of Communications Rep; and to Dee Rose (SOC/ANTH) for being re-elected as the Sessional (Unit 2) Chief Steward – Welcome aboard.
And congratulations to the winners of the Good Of The Union #10 Crossword Puzzle prizes: Muhammad Amin ($50 1st Prize); Adam Sparks (Black History Month Book Prize); and Muhammad Uzair (Bob’s Dogs Tickets).
At this meeting, the motion to authorize the Exec to hold an all-membership vote (Referendum) to give a mandate to call for any legal job action if and when it is deemed necessary, was brought to the floor, discussed and voted on. The result was extremely successful, with one vote against and no abstentions.
We thank you one and all for standing up and giving us the benefit and support of your voices, voices we can take to the negotiations table with us.
In the meantime, we will keep you updated on our progress at the table. Once again, thank you for your support.
